Kendall Bronco, a Ford Motor Company dealer
250 East Overland Road Meridian, Idaho 83642
May 2023
Outside Boise, Idaho lies Ford Motor Company’s Kendall Bronco dealership—strikingly remade with new concepts, lighting and accents from what had previously been a local car wash.
Kendall Ford, which also inculcates shared values among Ford Bronco owners, sponsoring Bronco Club outings and events in the Meridian, Idaho area, such as trail rides with other Bronco fans and off-roading enthusiasts in the sport utility vehicle (SUV), sought to make a new space for both choosing or customizing a new Ford Bronco.
The selection was made by architects Simon Deng and Matt Sanchi. ZGA Architects & Planners specifically chose and laid out Alcon Lighting’s products. Kendall Ford and Ford Motor Company conceived the general lighting.
"The project transformed and expanded an underutilized car wash into a distinct and stand-alone facility"
“To define specific areas within an open floorplan,” said Sanchi. “This required creating distinct lighting schemes that not only illuminate the space but also help delineate different functional zones without use of physical barriers.”
“To create an inviting, immersive experience for the customer, highlighting sleek materials and modern design elements used throughout the building while enhancing display of the Ford Bronco line,” said Sanchi. “Lighting was designed to complement the rugged outdoor spirit associated with the Bronco, emphasizing its adventurous appeal. Additionally, the lighting provided functional illumination for sales, accessories, and lounge and sales areas, enhancing the overall customer experience and showcasing the dealership as a modern and innovative space.”

"It includes a spacious sales showroom, areas for sales, accessories and lounges, as well as customer-centric vehicle displays. The site also features seating areas, a public fire pit, and carefully planned landscaping for customers to relax and explore.”
When it comes to lighting design, color rendering can greatly impact the overall aesthetic and functionality of a space. The ability of a light source to accurately reveal the colors of objects it lights is essential, whether it’s for retail displays, museum exhibits or residential homes. Traditionally, the Color Rendering Index (CRI) has been used as the standard for measuring color rendering accuracy. However, with the emergence of new lighting technologies, such as LEDs, demand for a more comprehensive and accurate evaluation method arose. This led to the development of ANSI/IES TM-30-20, a revolutionary approach to assessing color rendition in lighting.
